Following an internal audit conducted after post-publication quality concerns were raised, the Editorial Office identified reference mismatches in the above article. The authors have confirmed the following corrections, none of which alter the scope, interpretation, or conclusions of the review article.

Reference corrections

  • Ref. [1] Replaced with a new Ref. [1] (Holland et al., 2022), below. The original citation was used to support the global estimate of approximately 732 million people infected with Ascaris lumbricoides; however, the cited source did not correspond to a global prevalence assessment. The corrected reference is a systematic review and meta-analysis that appropriately supports the reported global infection estimate.
  • Ref. [13] Replaced with a new Ref. [13] (Conterno et al., 2020), below. The original citation was used to support the statement that piperazine is no longer commonly used as a first-line treatment for ascariasis; however, the cited paper did not address this statement. The corrected reference is a review article on anthelmintic drugs for treating ascariasis and appropriately supports the revised statement.
