Following a post-publication editorial quality review, the Editorial Office identified several reference mismatches in the above article. The authors subsequently reviewed the cited literature and replaced the references that were not the most appropriate sources with references that more directly support the corresponding statements in the manuscript.
These corrections are limited to citation and reference updates and do not affect the experimental dataset, numerical results, tables, figures, statistical analyses, or the main conclusions of the study.
Reference and citation corrections
- References [2] and [3] The original citations were replaced with Klein et al. (2015) and Klein and Flanagan (2016), respectively. These references more appropriately support the statements regarding sex-based differences in immune responses, susceptibility to infectious diseases, and vaccine responses.
- Reference [5] The citation supporting the statement regarding sex and gender influences on cancer immunotherapy responses was replaced with Irelli et al. (2020), which directly addresses this topic.
- Reference [12] The citation supporting the statement regarding increased asthma risk among individuals with androgen receptor deficiency was replaced with Gaston et al. (2021).
- Reference [22] The citation supporting the methodology for T-cell proliferation assessment was replaced with Ganesan et al. (2023), which provides a more appropriate methodological reference for lymphocyte proliferation assays.
- Reference [24] The citation supporting the statement regarding the effects of sex hormones on thymic hypocellularity and Treg development was replaced with Taves and Ashwell (2022).
- Original Reference [38] The citation supporting the statement concerning impaired suppressive function associated with IL-10 deficiency in regulatory T cells was replaced with Ring et al. (2011). Following revision and renumbering of the reference list, this source appears as Reference [37] in the corrected manuscript.
- Original Reference [47] The citation supporting the statement regarding androgen receptor effects on thymopoiesis and T-cell homeostasis was corrected to Wilhelmson et al. (2020). This source was already included elsewhere in the reference list and, following revision and renumbering, appears as Reference [28] in the corrected manuscript.
