Correction: Understanding the Role of Genetics in Tumour and Cancer Biology

Abstract

This corrects "Understanding the Role of Genetics in Tumour and Cancer Biology." Adv. Life Sci. 2025 Feb;12(1):35–48. doi: 10.62940/als.v12i1.3334.

Following the publication of this article, an internal audit — conducted in response to quality concerns raised by Web of Science — identified a missing record of the Turnitin Originality / AI Reports. Upon reconciliation of the originality analysis, it was found that 56% of the article's content had been generated using AI tools without clear disclosure, alongside a similarity of more than 4% with at least one source published prior to this article. This prompted the initiation of a formal retraction process on 28 May 2025, during which the full text of the article was rendered unavailable for citation. Following receipt of the authors' explanation — clarifying that AI-based tools were used solely for language enhancement purposes such as grammar correction and improving readability, and not for generating scientific content or writing the main body of the article, and acknowledging that such use should have been explicitly disclosed at submission — the Editorial Expression of Concern was rescinded on 18 June 2025. The board has decided to keep the contents of the article unchanged. The article has additionally undergone a post-publication change to the acknowledgement section to reflect this disclosure. Author's justification reads "As non-native English speakers, we did utilize AI-based tools solely for language enhancement purposes such as grammar correction and improving readability — during the manuscript's preparation. These tools were not used for generating scientific content or writing the main body of the article. We now recognize that even such linguistic support should have been explicitly disclosed at the time of submission, and we deeply regret this oversight." Readers may access the rebuttal letter via the article page. However, the board has decided to keep the contents of this article unchanged.
