Following an internal post-publication quality review, the Editorial Office identified citation issues in the above article. The authors reviewed the concerns and confirmed that certain references were not appropriate for the statements they were cited to support. The affected citations and statements were therefore revised, the inappropriate references were removed, and appropriate supporting references were added where necessary.

These corrections are limited to citation and reference accuracy and do not affect the articles scientific discussion, principal conclusions, or overall interpretation.

Reference corrections

The following references from the original published version have been removed because they were not appropriate for the statements they supported:

  • Original Ref. [6] Removed:
Wiegrebe L. An autocorrelation model of bat sonar. Biological Cybernetics, (2008); 98(6): 587595.
  • Original Ref. [18] Removed:
Zorina ZA, Obozova TA. New data on the brain and cognitive abilities of birds. Zoologichesky Zhurnal, (2011); 90(7): 784802.
  • Original Ref. [44] Removed:
Zorina ZA. Animal intelligence: Laboratory experiments and observations in nature. Zoologichesky Zhurnal, (2005); 84(1): 134148.

Citation and reference updates

The affected statements and in-text citations have been revised where necessary, and appropriate supporting references have been added for the corrected statements. The reference list has been updated accordingly.

During preparation of the corrected version, a duplicate entry for the Isaacs et al. reference on engineered riboregulators was identified and removed. Following removal of the duplicate entry, the subsequent references and their corresponding in-text citations were renumbered to maintain consistency between the manuscript text and the reference list. In the final corrected version, the Isaacs et al. paper appears once as Reference [42].

The final corrected reference list contains 60 references, with the corresponding in-text citations updated to match the revised numbering.

These corrections do not affect the articles figures, tables, principal conclusions, or overall interpretation.
