Following a post-publication editorial quality review, the Editorial Office identified citation mismatches in the above article. The authors subsequently reviewed the identified citations and provided corrected references and, where necessary, revised the corresponding statements to ensure consistency with the supporting literature.

These corrections are limited to citation and reference accuracy and do not affect the experimental dataset, numerical results, tables, figures, statistical analyses, or the overall conclusions of the study.

Reference and citation corrections

  • Ref. [1] The original citation was not appropriate for the statement regarding the therapeutic applications of medicinal plants. The statement has been revised to refer specifically to the use of medicinal plants as complementary therapies and their study for glycaemic control in type 2 diabetes. The original citation has been replaced with a reference that appropriately supports the revised statement.
  • Ref. [4] The original citation did not appropriately support the statement regarding the defensive role of secondary metabolites in plants. The citation has been replaced with a reference discussing plant secondary metabolites and their biological functions.
  • Ref. [19] The original citation did not support the statement regarding the anticancer and anti-angiogenic properties attributed to Caralluma europaea. The citation has been replaced with a study evaluating the phenolic composition and anticancer effects of C. europaea extracts. The corresponding wording in the manuscript has also been revised to align more closely with the supporting reference.
  • Ref. [20] The original citation did not appropriately support the statement regarding the anti-inflammatory, oxidative stress-related, and immunomodulatory activities attributed to Caralluma europaea. The citation has been replaced with a study investigating the biological activities of chemically characterized C. europaea fractions, and the corresponding statement has been revised for consistency with the supporting literature.
